  • If our success at the rim is so bad, I'm prepared to deal with the fallout of just taking any open threes. Whether it's Bell, Cortes, Beverly or Ridgnal. Maybe at least one or two of them will find their stroke and take the pressure off of Rogers.

I'd have more faith in them potentially making easy shots before they make harder shots. The problem with the at the rim shots is a lot of them are forced and therefore harder.

Essentially we're bad from three because we can't shoot. We're bad at the rim because we take a lot of poor shots. We suck at the line which minimizes the perks of driving to the rim and making teams challenge you.

On the flip side, we're bad a defense, especially help defense.

We're good at looking bad though, so I guess there's that?

      • Pin, one of the reason we shoot so poorly at the rim is we shoot almost every layup or shot one handed. Another reason we shoot like a group of 3rd graders is because we almost never use the backboard. Lastly our designated point guard always drives into traffic only to spin allowing a double team to trap him and then he forces up a one handed shot that occasionally goes in. I don’t know any coach worth beans that would consider that outcome to be a “good shot”.

Exactly. Just because a shot may go in doesn't mean that it's a good shot.

I will give Xavier Bell credit .. he's gotta much better at finishing those "bad" shots at the rim. The problem is basically all of his shots are "bad" ... so it still equals an overall poor performance.

Our guys like to show off their 1 on 4 spin fadeaway moves when they get to the rim.

              • I’m surprised nobody even quoted the fact that Mills straight up some of this problem can be fixed by recruiting shooters. You don’t say something like that unless you’re *really* thinking about how bad your team is at making ANY shots.

also, rewatching Taylor’s clips on temple really made it apparent how disastrous our team is offensively. There were quite a few buckets where we had a great look and completely missed the mark. Like not even close to getting in the bucket.

                • Watching us consistently miss open shots every game is somewhat like watching Chiefs receivers drop passes throughout the season. You can draw up the play yet it doesn't matter if you can't finish the routine play.

                  • If I had to break down our missed shots I'd go :

50% - bad shots (heavily contested, out of control, not set etc)
30% - good shots just missed
20% - good shots but not the right person (open kick out for a wide open 3 for a 15% 3pt shooter etc)

                    • The thing is, it's not just the threes that are being missed. It's easy bunnies underneath as well.

While there are definitely some "easy bunnies" being missing. The majority of our missed shots .. even at the rim ... are heavily contested
